Benefits of Cacao
Cacao Effects
Cacao has some truly incredible properties and health benefits. Cacao comes from the Theobroma tree, "Broma" meaning "Food" and "Theo" meaning "God".
God Food, to nurture the indwelling God spark (spirit, soul, Atman, Ego, causal body, or whatever you wanna call it!) in each of us.
It’s packed with antioxidants, polyphenols, and a strange compound that occurs mostly in PURE cacao called theobromine. Theobromine is a compound similar to caffeine, but with profoundly different effects. Namely, it is a smooth muscle vasodilator. So instead of effecting the nervous system like caffeine, it effects the cardiovascular system - literally opening up the heart! It is stimulating but in a calm and blissful way (without anxiety!). Theobromine lasts far longer in the body than caffeine, which explains the long lasting, whole-body energy of cacao. People use cacao to energize the body which naturally keeps the mind energized as well, providing a boost in focus comparable to coffee (without jitters, and without crash).
The cacao we offer has an average of 400mg theobromine and 30mg caffeine per 30g serving. In order to get this amount from standard milk chocolate bars, you would have to eat 10 full bars!
Cacao Nutrition
A single cacao bean contains 54% fat (that’s the cacao butter), 31% carbohydrates (mainly fiber with a tiny amount of naturally occurring sugars), 11% protein (including arginine, glutamine and leucine), 3% polyphenols (flavonols and proanthocyanidins) and about 1% of minerals including magnesium, iron, copper and phosphorus.
- Iron for improved circulation: 14mg per 100g (highest plant source known to man!)
- Magnesium: 64mg per 30g - regulates muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure. Sharpens the mind, relaxes the body.
- Calcium: 65mg per 100g (more than in cow’s milk)
- Antioxidants: 1500mg polyphenols per 30g (up to 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries)
